The fifth-generation crossover made its official debut at the end of March 2018 (at the International Auto Show in New York), and compared to its predecessor, it has not only been completely updated technically, but has also experienced dramatic changes in image.
After the "change of generations" the car became much more masculine externally and internally, "moved" to a completely new platform, "armed" with new power units and received an expanded safety complex.
A quick glance is enough to understand that "the fifth" Toyota RAV4 bets on brutality. And we must say, the SUV looks attractive, harsh and balanced, and its outlines hover "off-road spirit" (which contributes to the "armor" of unpainted plastic around the perimeter of the body).
Aggressive 'face' looks with predatory glance of headlights, wide 'hexagonal' radiator grill and monumental bumper, respectable silhouette with angular wheel arches, sculptural 'splashes' on sides and 'soaring' roof, leaning stern with graceful lamps and sculptural bumper, where two 'trunks' of exhaust system are looking out from under it - designers of Toyota have obviously tried their best.
With its external dimensions, Toyota RAV4 of the fifth incarnation corresponds to the notions of compact class: it stretches 4,600 mm in length, reaches 1,855 mm in width, and 1,685-1690 mm in height. The space between pairs of wheels of front and rear axles of the five-door fits in 2690 mm, and its ground clearance is 195 mm.

On the market, the "fifth" Toyota RAV4 is offered with two gasoline four-cylinder "atmospheric" family Dynamic Force, capable of working in the Atkinson cycle at low loads, which are equipped with a combined fuel injection, phasor on both camshafts and 16-valve timing type DOHC with a chain drive:
Base versions are entitled to a 2.0-liter unit producing 149 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 206 Nm of torque at 4,400-4,900 rpm;
More powerful versions are equipped with 2.5 liter engine, which generates 199 hp at 6600 rpm and 243 Nm of peak torque at 4000-5000 rpm.
"Junior" engine by default is docked with a 6-speed "manual" and front-wheel drive transmission, but for extra charge can be equipped with variator Direct Shift-CVT with a starting gear and a full drive system with multi-disc clutch, if necessary, transferring up to 50% of traction to rear wheels, and "senior" works exclusively with 8-band hydromechanical "automatic" and a full drive.
At the same time "top" variants are able to boast an advanced system Dynamic Torque Vectoring, installed with both motors: it implies the presence of individual clutches on the rear wheels (resulting in organized control of the traction vector) and cam clutches at both ends of the driveshaft, turning it off while driving on the highway.
Speed, dynamics and consumption
Dispersal from 0 to 100 km / h takes 8.5-11 seconds, and its "maximum" is 190-200 km / h. In the combined cycle, for each "hundred" mile five-door on average "drinks" from 6.5 to 7.3 liters of fuel, depending on the modification.
Structural features
Toyota RAV4 of the fifth generation is based on universal "bogie" TNGA K with a power structure of the body, in which high-strength sorts of steel are abundantly used.
Both axes of the crossover have independent suspensions with transverse stabilizers, steel springs and hydraulic shock absorbers: McPherson type in the front and multilever layout in the rear.
