The MotorShow in New York unveiled a host of new products. Some of them are only concepts, but there are also really new generations that have made a big breakthrough in the automotive industry. One such new product introduced was the new fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 2018-2019 crossover. The car is positioned as a 2019 model, but for North America, the first copies of the crossover will arrive at dealerships in autumn 2018.
The new fifth generation of the acclaimed 2019 Toyota RAV4 Japanese crossover first announced itself six months ago, but the novelty has only now been officially unveiled with a partial list of features. The new 2019 Toyota RAV4 tells many that the 5th generation is a complete transition to a new design, and from the old crossover in fact only separate parts in the cabin, the rest is completely new, especially the appearance. The 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover has become brutal, with rough features, and it's also clear that Lexus designers have worked on the exterior and interior design.
The exterior of the new 2018-2021 Toyota RAV4
The exterior of the new 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover has become truly brutal, as many fans are already saying. From the soft and stylish exterior of the previous four generations, the five has been completely abandoned, getting the style of the previously famous Toyota Tacoma pick-up and the features of the new Lexus crossovers. Thus, the new crossover claimed to completely abandon the previous design and usher in a new phase in the Toyota RAV4 range.
From the front, the new Toyota RAV4 2021 crossover, as already said, the car has got the features of Toyota Tacoma, it is clearly noticeable by the new grille and the side-tightened optics. The main grille is in rhombo shape, with two horizontal lines. The company logo is located in the centre, with the front-view camera underneath the emblem. Depending on the colour of the emblem (chrome or chrome-blue), the engine under the bonnet of the crossover will depend on whether it is conventional or hybrid. The top and bottom of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 grille is adorned with a black mesh insert, in some configurations, according to the manufacturer, the insert can be chromed. The front optics of the new 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 have been completely redesigned to resemble the Japanese manufacturer's larger SUV. Sharp shapes and modern technology add even more rigour to the crossover. Starting with the base Toyota RAV4 2018, the optics will be adaptive and LED, with integrated LED daytime running lights. Slightly lower in the C-fangs, the designers have installed round LED fog lights.
This arrangement has given the crossover a 'wicked grin' that is not found in other cars of a similar class. The lowest front end of the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 is occupied by an additional grille with a pronounced splitter. Such a move the manufacturer has made to reduce the overhang, thereby increasing the crossover's passability and ground clearance. There is also a very unpleasant minus, the plastic parts around the lower grille (except for the splitter), are made of glossy black plastic, as a result, after a while all the scratches and other flaws will be very well noticeable.
The bonnet of the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover has been given an equally brutal shape. Such a move is made to definitively emphasise the crossover's wicked look. Two elevations stretch from the front optics to the front pillars, with the centre section slightly recessed. The windscreen of the new 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover has been given a greater slope, which has played well on the novelty's aerodynamics.
Starting with the base Toyota RAV4 2021, the manufacturer will install a heated system in the wiper parking area, as well as optional full windshield perimeter heating can be added. The location of sensors and sensors is the same as before, they are placed near the central rear-view mirror, slightly tinting the upper part of the glass.
The side of the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover looks even more brutal and austere than the front. This is evident in the chopped up front and rear wheel arches. As well as at the front, the sides of the crossover are adorned with glossy black overlays, which will also lead to a little disappointment after a while. The arches are not insignificant and this allows for larger rims to be fitted. The base set features 19″ alloy wheels in a completely new design, optionally 20″ can be fitted.
The location of the crossover's door handles has changed, with the designers dropping them down at a slope from the front to the back. In addition to the new keyless entry handles, the side of the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover features convex lines and curved details on the rear fenders. The side mirrors have been positioned on the door panel by the designers, and in most variants the mirror housing, as well as the mounting foot, will be painted black. The mirrors are fitted as standard with LED turn signal indicators, electrically adjustable and automatic folding, with optional memory for several positions.
Unlike the fourth generation, the new 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover gets five panes on each side. Two on each door and one blind 'vent' window behind the tailgate. Following the new design, the door opening for the front and rear doors has also changed, becoming larger.
There's a difference in the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4's body colouring too, with the fifth generation available in both monochrome and two-tone colours. The crossover's roof can be painted in black, grey, navy blue or left to match the body colour. The main body of the Toyota RAV4 2021 is offered by the manufacturer to be painted in colours:
pearl white;
metallic silver
dark grey;
blue;
burgundy;
black;
olive;
graphite;
ruby.
After the official launch of the new 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover, the manufacturer will announce the full list of available body shades. The novelty's two-tone colour scheme has lent a lot of charisma and rigour to the bodywork. See the top 10 list of the most popular crossovers.
The rear of the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 looks more like the new Lexus crossovers, thanks to its clean, sharp lines. The rear lights are based on LEDs, so the designers have separated the light units. A part of the optics is placed on the boot lid, the other part with tightened side part on the crossover body. A chromed V-shaped stripe has been added between optics, which reminds the features of new Lexus RX 450h very much.
The 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover received a similar roof slope, with a sporty spoiler with LED brake repeaters adorning the top, while the side glass is accentuated by glossy plastic overlays. To give themselves away, Lexus designers have added a horizontal black line to the side rear pillar. The 2019 Toyota RAV4 boot lid itself is low, but the step from the rear bumper has disappeared. On the underside of the lid, designers have added a number plate notch, the same as in Lexus.
The rear bumper of the new Toyota RAW4 2021 crossover, like the front, is slightly raised. The very bottom is adorned with a plastic diffuser and two chromed exhaust system tips, indicating a powerful engine under the bonnet of the car. In addition to the curved, sleek lines, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 bumper is adorned by a glossy black overlay, with two rectangular LED fog lights.
The roof of the new 2019 Toyota RAV4 has undergone just as many changes. Depending on the crossover option chosen, it can be solid, with a sunroof or a panorama roof. The buyer's choice will determine the colour of the roof, as already mentioned, most often the manufacturer offers black, gray or white colour. By installing a power sunroof, the rear part of the roof will get stiffening ribs, the panoramic roof is designed for the first and second rows of the crossover.
A shark fin antenna and black roof rails for attaching the optional luggage compartment will be mandatory on the rear of the roof. The manufacturer also offers to install an optional branded luggage rack designed to match the panoramic roof of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover.
Talking about the appearance of the new 2019 fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 crossover, we can firmly say that it will have an order of magnitude more buyers than the previous 4. The crossover has become even more brutal and wicked, something the previous generations lacked. On top of that, the manufacturer will offer a host of optional extras and add-on packages for the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4.
Interior of the 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover
Like the exterior, the interior of the new 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover has been completely redesigned, with rough features and sleek lines around the perimeter. The designers have completely redesigned the front fascia, with the exception of the steering wheel, which has moved on unchanged from the previous generation crossover.
The main panel of the new Toyota RAW4 2021 consists of three levels. The upper level is set aside as decorative, with chrome trim at the end, rectangular air vents and a projection display. The middle level protrudes slightly forward, above the main part, with two central air vents, an emergency park button and a 7″ (optional 8″) touchscreen display of the all-new Entune 3.0 multimedia system. The system comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa platform. There's a downside, the system doesn't support Android Auto as standard, and there's also no information yet on whether it will be optional or completely disappear from the Toyota RAV4 2019 list.The list of useful features of the new Toyota RAV4 2019 crossover multimedia system includes the latest generation of Verizon mobile communications, Wi-Fi hotspot and various ways to sync gadgets with the main system. The system also allows for voice control, dialing, internet searching and messaging. For easy operation, there are buttons and two selectors on each side of the display.
The third level of the crossover's front panel includes two LED-lit storage compartments for small items. The bulk of the Toyota RAV4 2019 crossover's console is dedicated to a dual-zone climate control panel, a touchscreen control panel for heated and cooled front seats (included as standard). Also displayed on this panel is information about the Toyota RAV4 2019's seatbelts and front passenger airbag.
Below along the centre tunnel of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover is a small recess with USB port charging, 12V socket and Qi wireless charging. Nearby sits a small automatic transmission selector with a function panel. In addition to a small selector for controlling the 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover's suspension, the electromechanical handbrake button, four-wheel drive controls, hill descent assist and a couple of other active safety systems are also located here. By standard, the interior of the new 2018-2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover is not designed for smoking, so you need to buy a smoker's package (a cigarette lighter and a glass-shaped ashtray) additionally.
Moving along the centre tunnel of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover, designers have added two illuminated cupholders and a large armrest with a roomy compartment inside. On the back of the armrest, temperature control for the second row of seats and recharging from a USB port and 12V socket has been added.
In total, the new Toyota RAV4 2021 crossover has seating for 5 passengers. The front seats are designed in a sportier and more austere style, with a high backrest and an almost moulded headrest. Side support on the backrest and underside of the seats is considerably greater than in the previous generation. The 2019 Toyota RAV4's seat adjustment will be electronic only, with the ability to adjust in at least 8 different directions.
The second row of seats in the 2019 Toyota RAV4 is designed to seat three passengers fully, this is clearly visible due to the three separate headrests. The proportion of folding seats remains the same as before - 60/40, but for the benefit and convenience of passengers, the central ledge of the tunnel, which often got in the way under the legs, has disappeared.
As a material for the interior trim of the new 2019 Toyota RAV4, designers have used only high-quality leather. The side parts of the seats will be covered with leather, while the central part will be perforated. The door pads, gear lever and steering wheel of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 will be leather-covered, too. As far as colours are concerned, only four colours are known so far:
black;
white;
gray;
burgundy.
In addition to the solid Toyota RAV4 2019 interior, the buyer will be offered combination shades, in the form of black and white, black and grey, or other options. Due to this, the manufacturer has significantly expanded the combination and set of the interior of the new crossover, which will further attract buyers. What other materials will be used for the Toyota RAV4 2019 interior trim, the manufacturer has not yet specified.
The driver's seat of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover combines the features of the previous generation with the new design of the modern version. The steering wheel has been completely taken over from the 4th generation crossover. The steering wheel is designed with three spokes, the two upper ones are occupied by functional buttons, the lower one is decorated with a silver insert. As before, the steering wheel of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover can be adjusted in height and depth.
The instrument panel of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 crossover has been given a rougher shape, such as in Lexus crossovers. Of the dashboard's innovations, there's a new 7″ colour display that displays the speedometer, engine performance data and other information, although the tachometer has remained the same, an arrow display. According to the driver's wishes, he can choose the dashboard backlighting and brightness on his own, in parallel, it is possible to choose the colour of backlighting along the perimeter of the interior of the 2019 Toyota RAV4.
