The new Toyota RAV 4 is shown during its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show. The 2019 model year Toyota RAV4 has changed generations and moved to a modular platform. An all-new body, upgraded engines, and an advanced powertrain.
The implementation of the TNGA modular platform made the 5th-generation RAV4 body 57 percent stiffer than the previous crossover version. The new design of the rear multilever suspension improved comfort and handling of the Japanese car. Ground clearance increased by almost 13 mm, while the height of the body slightly decreased, which would provide optimal aerodynamics. There was an increase in wheelbase and track, and front and rear overhangs became less.
The appearance of the new RAV4 crossover was a surprise. Of course, before that the manufacturer showed an incredible concept, but no one expected that so many conceptual elements would appear on the production model. Muscular faceted lines, powerful bumpers, grille, and plenty of LED elements in optics. Additional plastic protection of wheel arches and sills looks quite impressive. In the Adventure version on the roof you can find additional rails to mount the luggage rack. Side mirrors are moved lower for better visibility. Features of the 2019 Toyota RAV4
In the United States, the manufacturer makes the main bet on the updated 4-cylinder 2.5-liter atmospheric Dynamic Force series equipped with the VVT-iE variable valve timing system. Together with the unit will be available an 8-band automatic. After upgrading this engine easily produces 200 hp. For those who love ecology the hybrid powertrain will be offered, consisting of the same 2.5-liter engine and THS II system with electronically controlled transmission ECVT. The hybrid has All-Wheel Drive with Intelligence (AWD-i) by default.
In our country the power units will be offered in a simpler way. Today it is the same 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 180 hp and 233 Nm of torque. There is also a 2-liter gasoline atmospheric engine developing 146 horsepower. Diesel 2.2 will please with a good torque and 150 hp. As for the gearboxes, it is a continuously variable variator, six-speed manual or six-band automatic.
The initial version has front-wheel drive, while in more expensive configurations 4x4 transmission is available. In the new generation of the crossover two types of all-wheel drive transmission will be available. In fact, this is the old version of Dynamic Torque Control AWD with automatic redistribution of torque between the axles and the possibility of forced redistribution 50x50. But there will be a new system Dynamic Torque Vectoring All-Wheel Drive with Rear Driveline Disconnect with additional electromagnetic clutches transferring torque between the rear left and rear right wheels. The similar scheme of a full drive is used by Toyota for the first time in its history. Time will show how it will work in practice.
