Toyota RAV4 recall: 9 model secrets

Almost no one reads the car's manual. But if you flip through it completely, you will find a lot of fascinating "features" that you might not even know. We read for you the manual of one of the most popular cars in Europe.

RAV is an acronym with a variable meaning. At first, the model was positioned by Toyota as a youth car for active recreation, hence the name - Recreation Active Vehicle. However, in the following generation the abbreviation is deciphered already as Robust Accurate Vehicle - "strong exact (in management) car". The manufacturer decided to change the transcription to show more of Toyota's "family values" - branded reliability and all-wheel drive.

1. The on-board computer has a built-in power-saving mode and battery-discharge protection. If you accidentally leave the parking lights on overnight, close the car and go home, when the charge level drops to a certain limit, the lights will turn off automatically. Thanks to this, you will be able to start the car in the morning, instead of looking for someone to light it up.

2. The built-in alarm system has an option to disable the motion sensor. This is useful if you need to leave your pet inside the car - for example, in a store parking lot. The alarm will not make noise, scaring the dog and passersby while you are away.

3. if you remove the key and turn on the high beam, the car activates the "light track" mode. Its work time can be adjusted for 30, 60 or 90 seconds - the light will "escort" you to the entrance and turn off. It is important, however, to stand facing where you will go...

4. The bottom of the trunk can be adjusted to a convenient height from the onboard computer: increase the volume of the trunk, or make the floor flush with the bumper to make it easier to load bulky items.

5. The system does not activate the daytime running lights if the vehicle is off with the handbrake on when the engine is started. The headlights are also automatically switched off during prolonged parking with the engine running. So you can wait for a passenger on the side of the road without drawing too much attention to yourself.

6. If the low or high beam is on, every fifth time the windshield wiper is on, the headlights are also washed.

7. If you accidentally leave the car with the windows open and walk away, they will automatically close 20 seconds after the engine is turned off.

8. In "Comfort" and higher configurations, the climate control system will not shut off if the air conditioning is switched off. It will maintain the cabin temperature by automatically adjusting and redirecting the airflow in the cabin. So if you're afraid of catching a cold from the air conditioner, or you just don't like it blowing cold air, you can turn it off. Provided it's not too hot or too cold outside, the system will manage to maintain the set temperature without forced air cooling.

9. All body, engine, transmission and interior parts are tagged with 10,000 T-Mark microdots, which are unique to each car, linked to its VIN number and embedded in the alarm system. An interesting additional way to protect against theft.

By the way! Do you know that Toyota cars should have been called Toyoda - in the name of the creator Kiichiro Toyoda? But to write this character, you had to do so many brush strokes, which is considered unhappy in Japan. So we changed the spelling. Judging by the sales results, the decision turned out to be the right one.

The Rav4 is a compact, frameless, very economical car. The factory designation of the latest model is HA50. It is based on the front-wheel-drive TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. The 2017 restyling of the 4th generation Toyota Rav4 had the designation HA40.
