The 2.4 engine from the previous generation was replaced by a 2.5 liter 2AR-FE four-cylinder petrol unit with 180 horsepower. The transmission is automatic. In terms of economy is inferior to the last version - the average consumption in the city is 11.4 liters, on highways - 6.8 liters.
Japanese developers have added another variant of the 2,2-liter diesel engine. The 150-horsepower unit is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The high output (340 Nm) allows you to accelerate the car up to 185 km/hour. Acceleration capability is also better than the gasoline variants - no more than 10 seconds. Fuel consumption is 6.5 liters in the combined cycle.
In the configuration of the vehicle with front-wheel drive the 2-liter engine with a stepless variator MultidriveS is available. Average consumption is 7.4 liters.

In technical terms, the fourth generation of the RAV does not differ much from its predecessor. The independent suspension retained its previous design. McPherson struts remained in front, rear - unchanged double wishbones.
The electronic stuffing is significantly changed. The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, which works in three modes, controls the all-wheel drive. Electromagnetic clutches distribute torque to the classic 50:50 only in certain road situations.
