Everything you need to know about the Toyota RAV4 factory warranty.
Understand what is included in the Toyota RAV4 warranty.
Despite the fact that Toyota is reliable cars, they have their own problems, many of which cost thousands of dollars to repair.
An extended warranty provides peace of mind for potential future replacement and repair costs.
Although Toyota RAV4 cars are rightfully considered one of the most reliable and high-quality cars, no car is insured against the possible need for repairs. Whether you’re considering a new Toyota or already owning one, you need to understand what the Toyota RAV 4 factory warranty covers, what not, how long it lasts, and the extended warranty options available to you after your initial coverage expires.
What is covered by the Toyota RAV4 factory warranty???
All new Toyota vehicles carry a standard factory warranty that starts from the date the vehicle was used or from the date the vehicle was delivered to the original purchaser. All new Toyotas are warranted for four types of coverage:
Basic coverage
This includes repairs and adjustments due to defects in materials or workmanship, excluding normal wear and tear and maintenance. Coverage lasts 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Transmission coating
This includes the engine, transmission and gearbox as well as front and rear wheel drive systems and related components. Coverage lasts 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Restraint systems warranty
This covers repairs for any defects in seat belts or air bug systems for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Corrosion Perforation
This “through” coating is designed for sheet metal perforation and lasts 60 months, regardless of mileage.
Emission coverage
Your Toyota may be eligible for this coverage depending on where you live, as coverage varies according to federal and California regulations. If your area has an EPA approved vehicle inspection and maintenance program, your vehicle is eligible for repair if it does not meet applicable standards. Such failures can result in a fine, such as a fine or denial of the right to use your vehicle. Coverage is 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Other Toyota Warranties: Hybrid and Used
If your new Toyota RAV4 is a hybrid, you will receive hybrid coverage in addition to the coverage above. Hybrid-related coverage covers the high voltage battery, battery control module, hybrid control module, and inverter with a converter for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
If you have purchased a Toyota Certified Used Vehicle (TCUV), it is covered by the TCUV warranty. This warranty is essentially an extension of the original factory warranty and includes:
Full Warranty: Covers repairs and adjustments due to defects in materials or workmanship, excluding wear and tear and maintenance. Coverage starts on the date the TCUV was purchased and lasts 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Limited Powertrain Warranty: Covers most major engine and transmission components, including engine, transmission, axle assembly and hybrid components. Coverage starts on the original date of first use when purchased as new and lasts seven years or 100.00 miles, whichever comes first.
One year of roadside assistance: Covers flat tires, locking service, starters, towing and fuel delivery, and starts when you buy a used car. Coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Please note that warranties may vary slightly depending on vehicle model and location of purchase. The best way to determine the exact coverage of your Toyota RAV 4 is to refer to your vehicle’s warranty and service manual or contact your dealership.
What is not covered by the Toyota RAV 4 factory warranty?
Although the factory warranty for a new Toyota RAV 4 is sometimes referred to as “bumper-bumper” or “full warranty,” this language, which indicates comprehensive coverage, can be misleading.
In addition to the above time and mileage restrictions, the Toyota Factory Warranty excludes items of regular maintenance, damage or malfunctioning directly or indirectly from a long list of incidents.
To help you understand the potential costs associated with failure or breakdown of what is not covered, here is an overview by type of what is not included in Toyota’s factory warranties:
Tires: Tires are covered by a separate tire manufacturer’s warranty.
Normal wear and tear: Noise, vibration, cosmetic conditions and other damage caused by normal wear and tear are not covered.
Routine maintenance services. Your warranty does not include engine tweaks, fluid and filter changes, lubrication, cleaning and polishing, replacement spark plugs and fuses, or replacement of worn wiper blades, brake pads and clutch linings.
Accessories: Toyota accessories purchased when buying a new vehicle are covered by a different warranty. Toyota accessories are warranted for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Damage or malfunction as a result of certain incidents: fire, accidents, theft, abuse, negligence, misuse (racing), improper repair, alteration or intervention, lack of improper maintenance, installation of non-original Toyota RAV4 parts, onboard chemicals, tree sap, road debris, lightning and other environmental conditions, and water pollution are not covered by the warranty.
