Really wanted to write about the new RAV4. Experience 33 years, former trucker, 22 years of driving around the country. Before that was all sorts of cars, but the last six years, mostly Prado 120, 150, and two Lexus GX 460, from trucks - Isuzu, 15t ref, Volvo 770 (American) and Volvo FM. After six years of using these trucks I realized, that I didn't need such truck. And then came the new RAV4. Design car I liked immediately, the car looks great, no chaos to the previous model. Inside, too, all liked it, but. There is one or more buts, but about that below.

Toyota RAV4 - 2020 sport

I chose the Prestige with a 2.5 engine and an 8 speed automatic. In our country, in Siberia, we don't need sign recognition, lane-following system and other stuff (but that's my opinion and I don't intend to impose it). I would gladly overpay for roundabout and front-view cameras, for navigation (a useful thing at us) and adaptive light, but so no, all this you can buy only with useless frills which will only annoy, especially in winter, in our area. We liked auto by running properties, Lexus shook more, pick up speed equally, and fluctuation of vertical and lengthways in RAV4 is appreciably smaller. But be careful on big bumps - suspension pierces, as an excuse - it's a crossover after all. In short, the running gear is good with plus. Now the interior.

There are many ergonomic flaws and shortcomings, why only the driver's window lift button is illuminated, why the buttons for closing and opening doors, adjusting the mirrors, turning on the interior lights are not backlit, or why people don't use them at night. But the GLONASS button is illuminated as it should be and it is beautiful, we can do it whenever we want. Why, in not a small car, there is no place for small items, where is a pocket on the driver's seat? It is a stupid economy - a penny, but stupid. But you can forgive everything when you start driving, it is something, and now, when ice and skating have begun, with the new system of full drive Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD, which is on versions "Prestige" and "Prestige Safety", is the bomb, but it is for those who knows how to drive, "dummies" do not need it - they will not understand. I'm not an opponent of variators, the more so that in the new 2-liter RAV4, it has manual 1 gear, which increases the reliability of the unit many times, but I wanted a more powerful motor, and this is not enough for me, I want to crank it up to 250 horses, but there are no programs yet. About the engine I can't say anything yet, direct injection, in practice differs more quickly start and a light metallic knocking at idle, the gearbox shifts amazingly, that it is necessary. Manual mode is almost unnecessary, I use it on descents, in front of cameras. The modes - economy, normal and sport, really work, and not just fun for vanity. Brakes are excellent, after "Lexus", when driving out of the salon, I braked and almost beat out the glass. The car is excellent, but gentlemen designers, finalize the interior, or make it possible to have it all in a particular modification, and the lightning must be made on all modifications. Take away the BUT, gentlemen designers - people will thank you very much.

Of the negative ones, the most adequate one is below:

Negative review, car rating 3.4

This post will be about the great indignation in the direction of Toyota and the new RAV4, alas I have had enough of it... And also about the animals that live inside the showrooms and pretend that everything is fine and you are unique in your problems.

I feel like using foul language...

Perfect?

My RAV4 was bought in 2020, one of the first after the official launch, to say the car is bad? no, it's great for the family, for commuting in the urban cycle, it has a pretty good running gear, not bad with interior space and amenities, that's probably it...

What's wrong?

Alas, there's a lot going on, the first bells started of course with the well-known problem with the wipers, when after a short period of use you start to get a smudge on the windscreen when it rains or using the washer, a problem simply ignored by Toyota, although the number of complaints is simply huge.

The next problem, as many have noticed, is the inadequate amount of dirt in the underhood space due to poorly fitting rubbers and throwing through the struts.

The car stereo: as Toyota is known to have ditched all owners of cars that were released before the end of autumn 2019, their head units are not upgradeable, thanks Toyota. Bluetooth headset on the mag, you can't be heard well... need to upgrade the mag.

Dirt: under the accelerator pedal, try cleaning... due to the pedal mount being at the bottom, dirt from shoes just rolls down, solution: change pedal unit...

Noise isolation: it's so weak you could say it's non-existent... especially if the box is in sport mode.

Doors: yes, even the doors have nuances, they don't always close the first time when all other doors are closed, the reason was found in the fact that the grille through which the air in the cabin comes out is too small for the accumulation of air when the doors are closed, a classic sore.

Transmission: according to Toyota, the box has a first gear manual and therefore can be loaded slightly more than other variators, but a full description, alas, cannot be found.

Kicks box: though you are the owner of a fancy hybrid, though the usual two-liter with a variator, you are waiting for kicks, as far as known the problem is caused by the software part and like the American market, hybrids have updates on the box, but here for our market, alas updates are closed.

Light: Well, everything is simple here, it is, but it is minimal, many owners immediately in a circle change all the lighting, interior and exterior.

Light in the boot: everything is simple here, consider it as there is no, how to do: there are already many posts.

Fog lights should be mentioned separately - what for, if they are good for you... in general, there is a lot of trouble with light.

Plastic: a lot of people have noticed that squeaks constantly appear in different parts of the body, here we have to guess where the squeak is and localize the place in time until the plastic covers the paint. Also, plastic is awfully tender and dirty, you will get scratches or abrasions.

Engine: as many have heard and read, there is a recall programme for the ICE due to a crack. Engine vibration at idle around 3k rpm.

Dirt on the tailgate, again, the Chinese are already trying to widen the mudguards, but it is all useless, the tailgate will be in the dirt, there is only one way out: put something hard in the rubber gasket to make it fit tighter.

Separately we would like to notice about add-ons, bought from official dealer: a mat in a boot which kills with time a plastic, as it is made of disgusting components and simply moves on plastic.

I want to say separately about the oil change regulations and the choice: officially Toyota recommends 0W16 oil, at its dealerships lays: 0W20, but some particularly interesting dealer centres pour 0W30, as for me 0W20 is good that, almost immediately you can go, oil as water, but its replacement interval, not exactly 15 thousand km, 8 thousand km maximum and it is black and nasty. I can recommend from myself to only coast and not to drive at least for the first minute until the oil in a box warms up and reaches its operating temperature.

Crossover:

The front bumper height is so-so, with the hybrid even lower, talk about overcoming obstacles is hard, yes you can pass better than sedans, but it's not a crossover.

Getting stuck in sand, mud etc is easy and four wheel drive won't save you, as you can see the 2020 model has much better performance than previous models, but far from ideal.

Get caught in the exhaust on the kerb? easily, better not try to drive off the kerb or dive into a puddle, 90 per cent of the time you'll get caught in something.

Parts:

I've had 2 enquiries about replacing the lip on the bumper and replacing the middle part of the rear bumper through the insurance company, the job is a total nonsense, but what confused me most: even after over a year of sales, it took 2.5 months in the first case to replace such simple components, in the second case: 1.5 months, which is like... in the case of more serious damage it can take a completely inadequate amount of time. The problem is logistics, the parts are not clear how they get to our country and it stretches a lot in time. According to our favorite law, the car can stay in the shop for a long time and nobody will compensate you for anything. It is also not possible to return the car...

The warranty:

Who among you has read warranty conditions? I have the impression that the warranty only includes door handles, everything else, once you have left the showroom, you can forget.

www.toyota.ru/owners/warr...paign/warranty-conditions is the official warranty of Toyota RAV4.

To sum it up:

Rav4 2020 is not a bad car, but it still has to go and go to the ideal. A good car for travel within the city, overcoming small obstacles, to get out of a small snow drifts, but further. alas...

Mileage: 21,000 km
