Toyota RAV4 2020 plug-in hybrid crossoverThe Los Angeles Auto Show brought a plethora of production novelties. One such representative is the new plug-in hybrid crossover Toyota RAV4 of the fifth generation. The basis for the novelty is the modular platform GA-K, as well as the previously known hybrid unit (Hybrid Dynamic Force) based on a 2.5-liter gasoline unit, which is used for the usual hybrid RAV4. All this fun is realised through a boost converter, which has been added to the hybrid control unit.

The crossover also gets an improved new lithium-ion battery with a higher capacity. According to preliminary data, the manufacturer calls range more than 60 km, but the maximum limit is not specified yet.Total power unit is 306 horses, due to which the first hundred on the speedometer a new Toyota RAV4 can overcome in 6.2 seconds. This layout not only improves overall performance, but also makes it the most powerful crossover among the other RAV4s with an internal combustion engine.

Toyota RAV4 2020 plug-in hybrid crossoverAccording to the manufacturer, the new 2020 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in-Hybrid is the best among D-segment hybrids. The vehicle is also more fuel-efficient and has reduced CO2 emissions (less than 30g/km, according to WLTP measurements). The plug-in hybrid engine is paired to an AWD-i all-wheel-drive system that does an excellent job of recycling torque. It is tentatively known that the new plug-in hybrid will hit the market in the second half of 2020. A starting price and an approximate date for the official launch of sales are promised later on.

Four Driving Modes

Four driving modes will be available on the Toyota Plug-in Hybrid, including the new EV mode. It will allow you to drive more than 65 km* using only electricity (if the traction battery charge level and driving conditions allow it). The RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid can reach speeds of up to 135 km/h.

Hybrid batteries

The Toyota Plug-in Hybrid uses an extremely compact lithium-ion battery under the floor. This has increased the volume of the luggage compartment to 520 liters.

On the other hand, the low-lying traction battery made it easier to achieve a low center of gravity for the car. This improved stability and driving comfort.

High-efficiency heat pump in the air conditioning system

The plug-in hybrid Toyota RAV4 has a heat pump air conditioning system known from the plug-in Prius. It has been adapted for use in the SUV with hot water circulation - the same as on the RAV4 Hybrid.

The system, which absorbs heat from the air outside the vehicle to heat the interior, is far more efficient than engine heaters or high voltage electric heaters.

Sporty Design

The plug-in hybrid RAV4 impresses with a sophisticated, sporty look. At the front, the new model is distinguished by a dark grille trim that goes over its frame and headlights, as well as a new metal trim on the lower bumper rail. The new 18-inch and 19-inch wheels are a contrasting mix of bright polished metal and gray or black paint. Everything is finished off with black moldings around the lower body.

Especially for the Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, a new sporty-style upholstery design with a striped pattern and contrasting red details has been developed. Black leather seats with dramatic red stripes will also be available. The center console is equipped with a 9-inch multimedia touchscreen for easy and intuitive operation.
