Disadvantages of Toyota RAV4 2021: all the pros and cons according to owner reviews

Before you buy a new Toyota RAV4 2022 or any other car, you should first study the reviews of owners who have shared their experiences of owning this crossover. Below we have collected the shortcomings of the Toyota RAV 4 5th generation based on the reviews of real car owners. The model is sold with two gasoline engines - the base engine comes with a 2.0-liter atmospheric engine rated at 149 hp, which can be either front- or all-wheel drive.

The more powerful 2.5-liter unit produces 199 "horses" - it goes exclusively 4WD and is paired with an 8-band automatic. The initial motor with a front drive comes with a 6-speed manual or a variator, but a four-wheel drive is only available with a CVT.

Toyota RAV 4 2020-2021 owner reviews

In a year and a half I went 37,000 km. Of the repairs it amounted to only 3 routine maintenance + after a trip to the south additionally lubricated calipers. Emotions are rather positive. Answering the question "would I buy such a car today?

RAV 4 is very universal, but thus the characterless car with average adjustments of all units: a box, a motor of suspension, with the same average level of noise isolation and so forth. From the point of view of reliability and durability, it is most likely, that it is an excellent car for the first and probably the second owner.

To demand from it something excessive in terms of quality of materials, as in Audi or other premium cars is not necessary. But it is the best to drive it every day for 5 years without much fuss.

Alex, review of 2020 Toyota RAV4 2.5 (199 hp) 4WD.

It accelerates well at overtaking, it presses into the backrest, but if at the moment of acceleration, I turn the steering wheel to the next lane, it feels that the car loses traction, and at this point I have to catch the car, steer. If I overtake just to the side, at the same speed with re-building, such a situation is not observed.

In this respect, the previous body's RAV keeps lane control like a skid. If someone would tell me about the tire, it's the same manufacturer on both cars.

Daniel, review of the 2020 Toyota RAV 4 2.0 CVT 4WD

I was disappointed with the ergonomics of the interior. The buttons for the heated steering wheel are difficult to get on the fly, and the right row of buttons on the monitor - it is difficult to reach. Buttons for control of lighting of front seats are on the ceiling - I don't believe that a sensible person could invent such control. Rear passengers are illuminated in the location of the head (inconvenient falling light).

The sound of the acoustics... You had to offer this for such a price... In my wife's Kia Rio it sounds just as bad. Good only for listening to the radio, though it catches with interference.

Review of the new 2021 Toyota RAV 4 2.5 (199 hp) automatic transmission 4WD

The engine 2.0 liter assumes a leisurely ride (for the city, of course, it is enough), accelerates up to 3-4 thousand rpm (though it accelerates quickly and with a howling sound).

When starting to drive (when going over 15 km/h) one can feel a jolt in the CVT gearbox - the previous model didn't have such a jolt. Sometimes the same effect is felt and at a sharp increase in speed (again, this was not the case before).

Review of the 2019 Toyota RAV4 2.0 with variator and all-wheel drive.

Strange settings of the variator, which you have to get used to after the automatic. At high revs, before the simulated upshift, it stops pulling, but immediately after the shift it starts. Brakes, unlike the same Prado and the 200th - they are there. The RAV 4 does not lurch in turns, it does not drag on ice and in standard mode, but if you switch "snow" mode it holds the car even in abrupt turns, as on rails.

The steering wheel is sharp enough, it steers well. During the winter I have never hooked any curb overhangs or scraped the bottom. Clearance for the winter city is enough. In winter the heat in the car (a plus all gasoline Toyota), warms up quickly in the summer in a cool car, too cools quickly.

For the city dynamics 2.0 liters enough, in principle, enough and for confident overtaking and driving on the highway, especially if you include the mode "sport". But the acoustics is rubbish, noise isolation is even worse than acoustics. A characteristic creaking of the driver's seat has appeared to 10 000 km. Yes, I weigh about 120 kg, but I've never had such a thing on any car before. In general, all sorts of rattles and squeaks, as I understand it, is the alter ego of the entire family of RAV
