2015 Toyota RAV4 FWD XLEWhile the 2015 Toyota Rav4 doesn't stand out in any area, its combination of features, passenger space, and everyday utility require closer scrutiny if you're buying a small crossover.

Because of their personality, ease of parking and reasonable fuel needs, compact crossovers are among the most popular vehicles on the road. versatility is their main virtue, as you can easily fill them with car seats, groceries, sports equipment or the latest trophies from an antique trip and have fun. Among these practical SUVs, the toyota rav4 has long been a favorite of sophisticated buyers of all ages and tastes.

Thanks to increasingly competent competitors, the 2015 Toyota rav4 is no longer an easy choice. nevertheless, you'll likely find that it ticks most of the boxes on your must-have list. the "compact" classification is almost unfair, given the toyota rav4's roomy passenger and cargo bays. the latter is particularly notable not only for its capacity (73.3 cubic feet - one of the largest in its class), but also for its commendable ease of use. whether you load it with a couple of dogs or a couple of bags of heavy topsoil, you'll appreciate the low cargo floor of the cargo area and, at the top, the presence of a power-operated height-adjustable liftgate.

2015 Toyota RAV4 FWD XLEPleasant on-road behavior makes the rav4 particularly appealing. in particular, good visibility, a reserved attitude to cornering and a smooth, quiet ride are character traits that everyone can appreciate. but unlike most competitors, this Toyota offers only one engine option. there is no need to upgrade your engine if you want more than average power. Also, the rav4's fuel economy numbers are good, but not the best in its class.

2015 Toyota RAV4 FWD XLEGiven the quality of competition in the small crossover class, it's worth checking out a few alternatives. When it comes to versatility, the 2015 Honda CR-V dominates its class with a spacious interior, plenty of storage compartments, significant fuel economy and a quiet and comfortable ride. Those who really enjoy driving should consider the attractive and sporty 2015 mazda cx-5, although its interior isn't as functional as others. there's also the well-established 2015 Ford Escape, which boasts a choice of three engines and a well-finished cabin. Finally, if you plan to go off-road, the 2015 Jeep Cherokee is a leader in this area, and is also one of the few models available with a v6 engine.

2015 Toyota RAV4 FWD XLEAll things considered, the 2015 Toyota rav4 is not particularly strong in any one area, but it shines as a solid, well-designed product in a very competitive segment. Thus, the rav4 should easily meet the needs of most buyers.

The 2015 Toyota rav4 is a compact, five-passenger crossover offered in three main trims: le, xle and limited.

le comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, power mirrors, keyless entry, rear safety glass, full electric package, air conditioning, cruise control, and tilt and telescopic steering wheel, 60/40 - split and reclining second-row seat, rearview camera, bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a six-speaker audio system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen, cd player, optional audio jack and ipod/ usb audio interface.

The xle adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, heated side mirrors with integrated turn indicators, roof rails, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, sportier front seats, a trunk lid and retractable sun visors. The audio system on the xle is updated to include satellite radio, HD radio, traffic and weather information. Options for the xle include a height-adjustable power tailgate, a navigation system and integration with the Toyota Entune smartphone app.

Limited top-tier comes with all of the above, plus 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and ignition, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather steering wheel and shift lever, eight-way adjustable driver seat with memory adjustment, heated front seats and premium synthetic leather upholstery.

Limited-edition options include a navigation system complete with an 11-speaker premium jbl audio system. The technology package adds blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning and automatic high beam control. there's also the premium Blizzard Pearl package, which includes pearl Blizzard paint along with 18-inch machine-trimmed wheels with black inserts.

The 2015 Toyota rav4 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 176 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, and all versions of the rav4 are available with either front- or all-wheel drive.

When tested, the all-wheel-drive Toyota Rav4 took 9.2 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h, which is an average time for a small crossover with a basic four-cylinder engine.

The front-wheel-drive rav4 is rated at 26 miles per gallon combined (23 city/31 highway) in the le and xle trim (with a slightly lower highway rating of 30 miles per gallon on the limited); this is good, but not the best performance for a small crossover. all-wheel-drive models are rated at 25 miles per gallon combined (22 city/ 29 highway).

Standard safety equipment on every 2015 Toyota Rav4 includes anti-lock disc brakes, a rearview camera, stabilization system, traction control, whiplash-reducing front head restraints, front seat side airbags and full-length side airbags. a driver knee airbag is also standard on all vehicles, while an optional technology package on the limited version provides

when testing the brakes, the rav4 stopped at 60 mph at 128 feet, about 5 feet longer than average.

In state crash tests, the Toyota Rav4 received four out of five stars for overall protection, four stars for frontal protection and five stars for side-impact protection. In the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests, the 2015 rav4 received the highest score of "good" for passenger protection in moderate to low overlap frontal offset tests. it also received a "good" score for side impact tests, roof strength, and seats and headrests.

Most small crossover buyers will find this Toyota's 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine suitable for most tasks and quite economical. The six-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, but if you tend to drive with confidence, you'll find that downshifting is slow in passing situations. In addition, we noticed that the transmission tends to shift between gears (instead of picking one gear and sticking with it) when climbing stable mountain slopes. both of these characteristics are likely a result of the transmission being tuned for maximum fuel consumption.

The 2015 Toyota rav4 handles well and feels refined and comfortable when driving on the highway. A potential exception is the limited model, which can get a little nervous on uneven pavement because of its large 18-inch wheels. Despite this, the cabin remains very quiet, making the Toyota crossover a good option for families with young children who tend to sleep in the car.

Overall, the rav4 is similar in character to the Honda CR-V, and more demanding drivers may find it less enjoyable to drive than more sporty crossovers like the cx-5 and Escape, which have more responsive steering and sharper acceleration. However, if comfort is your top priority, Toyota should do the right thing. Also, if you ever need to get off the beaten path, the rav4's available all-wheel-drive system quickly applies power where it's needed for optimal traction, providing decent off-road capability.

2015 Toyota RAV4 FWD XLEThe interior of the 2015 Toyota rav4 features pronounced angles and lines that form a streamlined and modern dashboard. overall, however, the design and materials of the rav are average for the class of compact crossovers, and some of the audio system and climate controls seem a bit flimsy. Cupholders are sufficient, but useful storage drawers are not as numerous as in the cr-v.

Although all rav4 audio systems carry the Toyota Entune trademark, only the xle and limited models with the navigation system include a suite of entune services connected to the smartphone, including bing search engine, Pandora streaming radio and traffic, sports and stock information. There are quite a few features, but getting started with entune can be a challenge: You need to install the app on your phone and register an account, plus you always need an active data connection to use its features. The touch screen interface has simple menus, but sometimes it does not respond to the user's touch (curiously, we found a simpler touch screen better in this respect). On the other hand, all of the standard rav4 2015 controls are easy to use.

Rear seat passenger comfort is slightly reduced due to the low back seat, but there is nevertheless enough room even for taller adults. We also like how the seat provides great tilt adjustment.

The cargo area measures 38.4 cubic feet and opens up to 73.3 cubic feet when the second-row folds down. this is one of the largest capacities in the class. There's also a benefit to this low rear seat: a very flat cargo floor and low loading height, which help minimize strain when loading heavy items or even a couple of large dogs. The power-operated, height-adjustable rear door is especially convenient.

The 2015 Toyota rav4 offers a comfortable and balanced ride, quiet at highway speeds and smooth on most surfaces. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine doesn't put out much power, but acceleration is acceptable, if not incredible, and you'll accelerate to 100 km/h in just under 10 seconds. Sport mode doesn't add power, but it enhances the engine's response to the gas pedal and forces the six-speed automatic transmission to hold a gear longer in the power range before shifting. there's also an eco mode if you want to save fuel, but many of us thought the lazy throttle response was too annoying, so we left it in regular mode.

rear-view aids. As fashions and safety regulations emphasize thicker poles, cars are getting harder and harder to see. The Rav4 comes standard with a backup camera and ups the ante with available blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, alerting you to approaching other vehicles when reversing. Despite being a compact crossover, the Toyota RAV4 offers plenty of cargo space behind the second row. If that's not enough, fold those seats down and you get a best-in-class volume of 73.4 cubic feet, all of which can be used thanks to a flat cargo floor.

Thanks to high-quality plastics and soft-touch surfaces, the 2015 Toyota rav4 offers a comfortable and cozy SUV interior. base models get contrasting colors, adding an upscale look at a price level that usually inclines the buyer toward softness. however, we are not fans of faux carbon fiber trim around the sills and gearshift lever. Interestingly, leather is not available, it is replaced by something called softex, which gives a pretty good impression of the real thing. The driver's seat is comfortable and snug, especially in the limited model with additional lumbar support. Rear seat passengers have plenty of legroom and plenty of room for cargo.

Overall, we like the look of the latest rav4, and its sharp lines are clearly aggressive compared to previous models. Owners of older models may notice that the current generation does not have a rear-mounted spare tire. however, despite the fact that this has been a fixture since the rav4, Toyota has acted wisely by discarding it, as it allows for a hinged rear door instead of the hinged design as in previous versions, making it easier to load the cargo area with groceries, or whatever else you have. power amplifier comes standard on limited models and is available in this year's xle models.

All 2015 Toyota rav4 models come with the same 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. Base rav4 le models come with entune, which includes a 6.1-inch display, Bluetooth connectivity, an am/fm/cd system with six speakers, and auxiliary and usb inputs to control your ipod. xle models add a power sunroof, upgraded Entune with satellite and HD radio, dual-zone climate control and upgraded front seats with French stitching. Limited models include a power trunk door, upholstery on the seats, premium sound equipment with navigation and apps, push-button start and more. All 2015 rav4s are equipped with eight airbags, stability/traction control and free service for two years / 25,000 miles.

all-wheel drive (AWD) is available on all Toyota RAV4 models, boosting the SUV's traction in wet weather and on dirt roads. other options include the Toyota Entune telematics navigation system, which includes voice recognition and various apps for everything from booking to searching for sports scores, a premium jbl audio system with 11 speakers and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

New this year, xle mid-level models can be ordered with a power liftgate from limited models.

The only engine available in the 2015 Toyota Rav4 is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 176 horsepower. Combined with the standard 6-speed automatic transmission, this is enough to accelerate the SUV from a standstill to 100 km/h in just under 10 seconds, not quite fast, but good enough. The standard front-wheel drive (fwd) can be replaced with an all-wheel drive system, and the rav4 will tow up to 1,500 pounds. The 2.5-liter inline-4176 horsepower at 6,000 rpm172 lb-ft of torque at 4,100 rpmE city/highway fuel economy: 24/31 miles per gallon (front wheel drive), 22/29 miles per gallon (all-wheel drive)

The base price for the 2015 toyota rav4 le is about $24,500. At the other end of the price ladder, the top-of-the-line limited model starts with AWD, and option packages can reach more than $31,000. These prices match those of competitors like the Honda CR-V and Ford Escape, two of its strongest competitors. other compact SUVs like the kia sportage and mazda cx-5 start lower, but the rav4's simplistic interior trim levels keep even the loaded rav4 well below the average and high $30,000 prices that plague other cars in this segment, like the Volkswagen tiguan. be sure to check the fair purchase price to see what others in your area are paying for a new toyota rav4. the rav4 should keep its value on par with the honda cr-v and better than ford's escape, but below the subaru forester.
